RECYCLE as much of our eyewear and packaging as possible at its end of use
Design - Rethinking the design process to eliminate one-time use packaging whenever possible. Our new SUN LUV collection is one example of many more to come. This collection uses paper tubes for packaging, which can either be reused or recycled - the choice is yours!
Materials - Working with suppliers to reduce the use of virgin materials in our eyewear and packaging in order to introduce more responsibly sourced material alternatives.
In 2021 alone, we transitioned over 7 million pairs of glasses from virgin to recycled materials. One innovative new material is made with 50% recycled plastic*. Not only is it made with recycled materials, it is higher quality than the virgin polycarbonate used in our products today so you can feel even better wearing them! Benefits to you include:

In terms of packaging, we have eliminated the use of PVC plastic packaging in favor of packaging that reuses recycled materials, including plastics made with at least 50% recycled polyethylene.
*Recycled content is calculated by mass balance.
Recycling - We have been working to make our packaging recyclable wherever possible. For example, we transitioned one major retailer’s packaging from non-recyclable paperboard and PVC to a 100% recyclable, plant-based material. We are excited to continue this work with our retail partners to make a difference on our end and are now seeking partners that will make it possible for you to recycle our eyewear on your end. Stay tuned!
Manufacturing - We may not own our factories but we are committed to rethinking our partnerships and have started choosing factories that align with our goals (and yours!). This is an ongoing process, and we are at the very beginning, but we are proud to have taken the first steps, including:
- Requiring our primary partner factories to report on energy usage so that we can better align our production with factories that are more energy-efficient.
- Ensuring all partner factories that make eyewear or packaging out of recycled materials are ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) or GRS (Global Recycled Standard) third-party certified.
Distribution - Rethinking how to deliver products in more sustainable ways including the shipping materials used to get the products you love to our distribution centers and out to retailers or directly to you! So far, 80% of our shipping boxes have been converted to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified cardboard and recycled paper, instead of the conventional cardboard used previously, and our work is not finished.

The goal?
A more circular model, designed to maximize the use of recycled materials in our eyewear and packaging and your ability to recycle both when you're finished enjoying them. We are committed to leveraging our 90+ years of expertise to play our part in helping to preserve our environment. Since 2021, we have tripled the amount of frames made with a percentage of recycled materials. Our goal is to continue to make more and more of our eyewear from recycled materials.
